The Nevada State Athletic Commission handed out $2,500 fines to Max Holloway, Paddy Pimblett, and Gable Steveson on Wednesday. All three fighters jumped out of the Octagon following their bouts at UFC 329 on July 11.
The NSAC doesn't take kindly to fighters breaking protocol after fights end. Leaving the cage without permission creates safety and liability issues, which is why the commission came down on all three. This wasn't a case of unclear rules either. Fighters know the boundaries.
Holloway, a former featherweight champion, should know better. Pimblett has made a habit of drawing attention with his post-fight antics. Steveson, the Olympic gold medalist making his UFC debut, was apparently unaware of the basic expectations.
The fines are relatively light in the grand scheme of combat sports punishment, but they send a message. Do your celebration inside the cage. Leave through the gate like everyone else.
