Jon Rahm walked away from LIV Golf. The Spanish star released all financial claims against the Saudi-backed league in exchange for getting back his name, image and likeness rights.

Rahm joined LIV in December 2023 on a reported nine-figure deal. The separation means he surrenders the remainder of that contract. What he gains is control over his own identity and marketing assets again, which matters enormously for a player of his stature looking to compete elsewhere or build sponsorship deals independently.

This marks another high-profile departure from LIV, which has struggled to build momentum despite massive Saudi funding. Rahm was supposed to be a marquee signing. Instead, the project has hemorrhaged credibility and top talent.

The move opens the door for Rahm to return to the PGA Tour or pursue other opportunities without the contractual baggage LIV imposed. He's a two-time major winner with the skills to compete at golf's highest level. Getting out now, on terms that preserve his personal brand, makes business sense even if it costs him nine figures in guaranteed money.

LIV gets breathing room too. Paying Rahm to play elsewhere beats the PR hit of having an unhappy star on the roster.
