Saquon Barkley is out for Sunday against the Panthers with a hamstring injury. The Eagles' backfield is already thin, and now they lose their best runner heading into a divisional matchup.

The good news: DeVonta Smith will play. Smith's return matters because the Eagles need weapons on offense, and his availability changes what they can do in the passing game. Without him, the Panthers' secondary gets easier assignments.

Kenneth Gainwell and other depth backs will handle the load in the backfield. Philadelphia's run game takes a step back without Barkley's explosiveness, forcing the offense to lean harder on Jalen Hurts' arm. That's not ideal when you're trying to control games late in the season.

The Panthers aren't lighting the world on fire, so the Eagles should still win this. But losing Barkley limits their margin for error and gives Carolina a better shot than they might deserve. Smith's presence helps offset it.
