Toronto acquired forward Aatu Räty from Vancouver in exchange for Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr. Räty cleared waivers before the trade went through, meaning no other NHL team claimed him off the wire.

The move gives the Maple Leafs another depth option up front as they push toward the playoffs. Räty brings young, cost-controlled talent to a roster that's been active at the margins all season. For Vancouver, the trade clears cap space and swaps out players as the Canucks continue their rebuild.

It's a low-risk, high-upside deal for Toronto. Räty has NHL experience but hasn't yet locked down a permanent spot. The Leafs are betting their development staff can get more out of him than Vancouver did. Quillan and Buhr head west as part of Vancouver's longer-term construction project.

This isn't a splash move that changes the playoff picture. It's the kind of roster tweaking contenders do when they've got salary flexibility and roster spots to fill. Toronto addressed a need without sacrificing assets they couldn't afford to lose.
