Davidovich Fokina knocked off Alexander Zverev 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the Shanghai Masters semifinals to reach the final. Zverev, who will become the world No. 1 next week, couldn't close it out after taking the first set. Fokina broke serve twice in the second set to level the match, then dominated the third to advance.
He faces 20-year-old Rafael Jodar for the title. Jodar is the surprise story of the tournament, becoming the youngest finalist at Shanghai in over a decade. The Spanish teenager has been the more consistent player throughout this run, and Fokina will have to maintain the aggressive baseline game that dismantled Zverev to claim his second Masters title.
