Davidovich Fokina knocked off Alexander Zverev in straight sets at the Shanghai Masters, defeating the future world No. 1 with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory in the semifinals. The Spanish lefty fought back from dropping the first set to take control of the match, breaking Zverev's serve twice in the final two sets to advance to the final.
Davidovich Fokina will face 20-year-old Rafael Jodar for the title. The Shanghai Masters title would represent a breakthrough win for Davidovich Fokina against top-ranked competition. Zverev's loss denies him a chance to collect another Masters 1000 title before officially ascending to the top of the rankings.
