Pauline Roussin-Bouchard shot 8-under 64 and holds the lead by one stroke after the opening round of the Maybank Championship at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. She birdied her final three holes. Roussin-Bouchard joined the tour in 2022 and is still searching for her first LPGA win, though she has three top-10 finishes.

Sophia Schubert and Miyu Yamashita tied for second at 7-under 65. Yamashita won this event last year in a playoff. Charley Hull of England sits two shots back after shooting a round that included two birdies in her final three holes. Perrine Delacour of France is also at 6-under 66, tied for fourth with Hull.

Major winner Haeran Ryu withdrew before her tee time for an undisclosed reason. She was the tournament's highest-ranked player in the absence of world No. 1 Nelly Korda and No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul.
