England's Red Roses crushed the USA 55-12 in a WXV Global Series match in New Jersey, bouncing back from consecutive losses in Canada. Wing Claudia Moloney-MacDonald scored four tries and claimed player-of-the-match honors as England dominated the second half after a competitive first 40 minutes.
The Red Roses had lost two Tests in a row for the first time in a decade before this fixture, snapping a 41-Test unbeaten run that lasted four years. England scored nine tries total, with tries also coming from Meg Jones, Mia Venner, Bryony Field, Maddie Feaunati, and Sadia Kabeya. The USA got tries from Hope Rogers and Kate Zackary but conceded three tries in nine minutes during the second half while prop Mona Tupou sat in the sin-bin for repeat scrum penalties.
Captain Jones said the team wanted to "control the game and impose ourselves on them," adding that England became "unstoppable" when they kept possession and everyone was a threat at the line.
Moloney-MacDonald described the week as being "all about proving it to ourselves" after the difficult losses to Canada. "We attacked it from minute zero to minute 80," she said. "That's what the Red Roses is all about."
USA co-captain Georgie Perris-Redding acknowledged the loss was frustrating but said she remained "so proud of the growth this team has made."
